KTM Super-Duke test ride

KTM Super-Duke test ride

Last year, we received the top model ‘The Beast’ from our strategic customer KTM-Motorcycles AG for endurance testing of the mechatronic modules developed by us. These test rides are very important in order to gain direct insights for the systematic improvement of the products. The 24 Hours of Le Mans was therefore an ideal target for further endurance testing.

The conditions were ideal for gaining insights: Continuous rain combined with temperatures around freezing point presented the rider and machine with very big challenges.

After a short breakfast, the ‘ride on the cannonball’ began. The Beast has 180 hp, which must be used in a controlled manner, especially in such conditions. All controls must be flawless and work intuitively.

The grip heaters were always operated at the ‘maximum’ level - more is definitely possible here. Brehmermechatronics has patents for more powerful grips and will propose these to KTM at the next opportunity to improve performance.

The refuelling breaks were short-lived. The Keyless Ride system with integrated tank lock works very well even in constant rain. The cap could be locked and unlocked more easily.

At the finish in Le Mans after 820 kilometres - unfortunately with a few detours - there was even sunshine.

Unfortunately, the Honda Viltaïs Racing Team had already retired with damage at this point. Nevertheless, rider Florian Alt was satisfied with the new Honda, as he was even able to fight his way past some of the works teams after a mediocre start.

On Sunday afternoon, the team returned home without any problems or delays.

The petrol tank was empty, the rider was tired and ‘the beast’ was in the garage: KTM power - simply brilliant! It won't be long until the next test ride.
